Event Detail:

Thank you for volunteering to cook food and/or serve the homeless at the ShelterHouse downtown!

Basics:

  1. Make spaghetti the morning of or the night before
  2. Donate $30 toward side items --I bring salad, desert, & bread -- if you can. (If able: Venmo @Steven-Sparks-22).
  3. Serve the homeless on a cafeteria line

Specifics:

Three to four servers per family please since there are limited line slots and standing around can be frustrating for folks if there's not a spot for them. :)

Meet 11:30 - 11:45 at the Shelter House 411 Gest St, Cincinnati, OH 45203. We serve right at 12:00. Out by about 12:45. Pull up on the side big sliding door and ring the bell, park inside. My cell is 513-315-5611 if any questions or concerns.

For each date we will need 3 families making food and 7-10 volunteers total to serve. The line only needs perhaps 7 or 8 but the other two folks can restock and help out from behind the line. An extra couple kids is usually not a problem.

Morning of cooking instructions (about 2 hours):

a.     6 lbs. spaghetti (2 boils)

[Tip: add some oil at the end so it doesn't stick].

b.     6 lbs. meatballs, one bag (Microwave or bake)

[All-beef meatballs please due to some religious restrictions. Costco has some].

c.     Three 66 oz. jars of sauce

Consider bringing to the Shelter House in two separate pots (or aluminum tins) of 1. sauce/meatballs and 2. pasta alone. Better consistency when sauce added to the pasta right before serving. Food can be warm or room temp but not cold. Avoid crockpots.

Optional thoughts - a baseball cap helps with cleanliness, apron if you like, a red shirt in case of splatters.

Buy wherever, but we do Kroger (pasta & sauce), Costco (meatballs), and use our own pots for $45 total.

Email me if you prefer night before pasta prep instructions.
